Hoboken Election Day 2025
So the big day is here and there's going to be an outcome to this tremendously long and arduous Hoboken municipal election.
It's a non-partisan race as two slates are vying to be a part of Hoboken City Hall led by council members Emily Jabbour and Michael Russo.
The debate between the two was uneven with both candidates running into the wall at various times. All of that is background noise. It's a pure GOTV (Get Out the Vote) effort now.
So Dawn Zimmer, the former mayor who saw big success with a big tent Reform Movement is back in town today on behalf of Councilwoman Emily Jabbour's bid for mayor.
It's not clear if she arrived by pirate ship but maybe she's a chip off the old sailor block by way of the Catskills down the Hudson River. Does outgoing mayor Ravi Bhalla know where she is? That might be a security issue. No love lost there these days, far different when Zimmer endorsed Bhalla to replace her when she backed out of a third term bid.
There's a relatively strong vote despite the weather. The early vote out of the third ward is described as very strong, a Russo stronghold, but others point out that the Jabbour Campaign has made inroads there.
As of 4:00 pm, the election turnout today at the machines is 5,882.
There's 2050 Vote-by-Mail ballots submitted to the County Board of Elections. The early numbers from the Hudson County Board of Elections should be released first.
As of 6:00 pm, total votes are unofficially under 10,000. We're looking at a significant, sizable drop-off.
Hoboken polls close at 8:00.
