Turning for the Runoff stretch
The approaching lull with Thanksgiving this week sees no slowing of the mayoral and council runoff ahead next Tuesday.
More people are lining up announcing their endorsements and offering words on behalf of their advocacy. The Ruben Ramos campaign council slate announced its support of Councilman Michael Russo for mayor while one BoE member called for a vote for Councilwoman Emily Jabbour, deeming it "common sense."
Was it common sense to hide and then try to shovel ahead a $241 million high school down Hoboken residents' throats? Short memories or shorter runways as reported on the Hudson County View.
On Friday, the Team Fisher event with Michael Russo reportedly saw a "good vibe" and a good time with the appearance of one former mayor. No, not Dawn Zimmer who is being presented as part of a last push for Emily Jabbour but allegedly Peter Cammarano, who lives not far from the Madison.

One attendee reported he even had a moment hugging it out with Russo. Citing it as brief, they've now found themselves wearing a Russo for Mayor t-shirt. They've soured on Emily Jabbour and note her alignment voting for Ravi Bhalla's agenda didn't sit well and point out that those they know who voted for Dini Ajmani are going the same route. It won't be long to learn how much of this is anecdotal and how much impacts election tallies.
Among those not rallying and endorsing Russo for mayor are former councilman Dave Mello, who came up a bit short for the runoff and Councilwoman Diane Imus who flattened all opposition in the sixth ward election earlier this month.
Mello was known for standing up to all manner of bad policy and worse in the City Council during the long 2011winter on the council led by Russo and co. At one point near the end of a council meeting, he refused to back down and literally stood up and went nose-to-nose with Russo which almost led to a brawl on the council dais.
The consistency in opposing one controversial redevelopment scheme pushed by Carmelo Garcia in the Hoboken Housing Authority led to Russo and his allies dealing the race card from the bottom of the deck. At one point during a council meeting, Russo would say of then council president Peter Cunningham he should "don the hood" of the KKK.
The HHA Vision "Money-Money" Plan would fail, Garcia's contract at the agency would be terminated and he would go on to Newark as an economic development advisor.
A former NJ Assemblyman currently awaiting sentencing in federal court after he pleaded guilty in June last year in a conspiracy to defraud the city of Newark in a bribery and wire fraud scheme, Carmelo Garcia resides in Hoboken uptown but was not seen at the event.
