Grist for the Mill Runoff Edition: Emily Jabbour campaign poll nightmare

Labor Day has come and gone, and the nervous winds of change are upon the Mile Square City. With it, the Hoboken mayoral race is firing with its armies of council candidates.

Councilwoman Emily Jabbour, a loyalist vote on the City Council for the outgoing mayor Ravi Bhalla, is said to be less than enamored with the results of her campaign poll last month.

According to senior officials outside Hoboken, there's unhappy braying within the Jabbour campaign.  Her campaign poll revealed not only is a hoped-for coronation no longer possible, but the most dreaded opponent stymying every alleged dastardly deed by Ravi Bhalla and his council adherents these past many years is headed into a runoff.

That is, of course, Second Ward Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher, who has led efforts to cut Bhalla's bloated budgets on an annual basis. This, as Jabbour stood ready to rubber-stamp them.

On the heels of Jabbour seeing her campaign manager depart as the Hoboken mayoral race goes into overdrive, more one-on-one personal counseling may be needed.

Requests to Councilwoman Jabbour for general comment on who to follow up with on the campaign and her poll have yet to produce any response. This story will be updated even with a late reply.

The questions remain outstanding. Are things already getting hot around the collar?

Other campaigns smell weakness. Councilman Ruben Ramos, after positing on positive park additions, is pointing to Jabbour's lack of leadership on basic issues. Leading into tonight's City Council meeting, a vote on the court-ordered Crimmins situation to be reinstated and head the Hoboken Fire Department is expected.

Jabbour isn't commenting on the substance of how she'll vote on that sticky legal situation either. City Clerk Farina, call the vote!

Are we seeing signs of a meltdown, even lacking summer heat? Doesn't look like a nifty flyer dumped on the Mile Square streets is going to fix this one.

Here are all the gory details of the Jabbour campaign poll.
